The Dutch Guy - Pixels for Bricks – One Million Pixels, One Place to Call Home

THE PERSON BEHIND THE PROJECT

Meet The Dutch Guy

A creative, positive-minded Dutch guy with a love for challenges, new ideas and building things that feel a little different.

Pixels for Bricks is not backed by a large company or a wealthy investor. It is a personal internet experiment, created by one person who decided to try something unusual in a difficult housing market.

The identity stays private by choice. The story, motivation and progress do not.

ONE PERSON. ONE EXPERIMENT.

Creative, optimistic and always ready for a challenge

The person behind Pixels for Bricks is enthusiastic, friendly and driven by curiosity.

He enjoys creating new things, particularly when they involve a challenge that has not been solved before. Sometimes that means analysing every detail first. At other times, it means putting his shoulders to the wheel and simply getting started.

In Dutch terms: niet lullen, maar poetsen.

He works in education, draws, takes photographs and enjoys walking. New ideas are rarely far away — although finishing the previous idea first remains part of the challenge.

Small enough to stay personal. Ambitious enough to reach a million pixels.

HOW IT STARTED

A difficult housing market and an old internet memory

The idea began with the reality of the Dutch housing market.

Finding and buying a suitable home has become incredibly difficult. Instead of only waiting, worrying or complaining about it, The Dutch Guy started thinking about a different route.

As a millennial, he consciously experienced the rise of the internet. He remembered a wonderfully simple idea from the early web: selling one million pixels.

It had worked once before.

So the thought became: Why not try it again?

Not as an exact copy, but as a modern experiment with its own identity, better technology and a very real goal.

You never score if you never take the shot. So let’s do it.

Project statement

OLD VIBE. NEW DIRECTION.

Inspired by the early internet, built for today

The internet has changed enormously since the original million-pixel idea appeared.

Pixels for Bricks therefore should not feel like a copy from the past. It combines the optimism, weirdness and creativity of the early internet with a modern design, clear manual request process and transparent public wall.

The goal is simple: bring back the old internet energy without bringing back the old internet experience.

The nostalgia

A recognisable nod to the internet of the 1990s and early 2000s.

The present

Responsive design, a lightweight manual order process and an accessible interactive wall.

The new story

A digital advertising experiment with a real personal goal behind it.

ONE PLACE TO CALL HOME

A house should become a home

For The Dutch Guy, this goal is not simply about owning a building.

A home should be a place that brings warmth, freedom, safety and peace. A place where friends and family feel welcome. A place where it becomes possible to start again, feel grounded and continue growing.

The ideal home is not defined by its size or price.

It would feel warm and inviting, with a cosy cottage atmosphere, thoughtful colour and plenty of personality.

Creating that feeling again is the real motivation behind Pixels for Bricks.

WHY THIS KIND OF IDEA?

Because conventional is not always the only route

An unusual experiment fits The Dutch Guy because he genuinely enjoys a challenge.

Building something that has never been tried in quite this way is part of the attraction. There is uncertainty, but there is also possibility.

The website itself has already become part of that adventure. It required more thought, design and technical problem-solving than expected — and may even have revealed a new direction worth exploring.

I do not know how far this will go, but I know I had to try.

Project statement

WHY “THE DUTCH GUY”?

Personal, but private by design

There is a real person behind Pixels for Bricks.

The decision to use “The Dutch Guy” is not intended to create a fictional character or hide the commercial nature of the project.

It keeps the attention on the experiment, the wall and the people who choose to join, rather than turning the website into a personal publicity campaign.

Visitors can still learn about his character, motivation, interests and way of working.

His full identity simply stays outside the spotlight.

Formal contact, privacy, seller and legal information remains available through the relevant website pages where required.

A REAL ONLINE PLACEMENT

More than a coloured square

Visitors should receive more than a coloured square.

Every approved block becomes a visible place to share an image, project, organisation, business, message or story.

A place on The Wall

A real position inside the million-pixel mosaic.

A clickable link

A direct route to a website, portfolio, campaign or social channel.

A shareable experience

An opportunity to follow and share the wider experiment.

A public story

Approved participants may also become discoverable through the Wall Directory.

Follow the journey

Visitors can follow the real progress through the website and Instagram.

FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY

A personal goal, handled transparently

The purpose of Pixels for Bricks is personal: creating financial room for a place to call home. Customer payments are revenue from online advertising placements. Payment costs, taxes, hosting, refunds, technical services and other project costs may first be paid from the money received.

Whatever remains can contribute directly towards the home goal that inspired this experiment.

  1. Confirmed payment
  2. Payment costs and charges
  3. Taxes and required charges
  4. Hosting and project costs
  5. Refunds and adjustments where applicable
  6. Towards a place to call home

REAL PROGRESS ONLY

No invented success

The numbers on Pixels for Bricks should always show the real situation.

The counter, buyers, placements and progress must never be inflated to make the project appear more successful than it is.

The uncertainty is real. So is the hope that the wall will grow quickly.

That honesty is part of the experiment.

No fake buyers

Only genuine approved placements appear.

No fake sales

The progress reflects confirmed purchases.

No fake testimonials

Nothing is invented to create artificial trust.

No false pressure

No countdowns or misleading urgency.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

When does the experiment succeed?

The ultimate hope is that Pixels for Bricks contributes enough to make buying a house — and turning it into a true home — possible.

But the wall can create value before it reaches one million sold pixels.

A growing mosaic

Real people, projects and organisations joining the wall.

A positive internet story

Showing that an unusual online idea can still bring people together.

A useful place

Helping visitors discover websites, businesses, creators and campaigns.

A real step forward

Turning digital progress into progress towards a future home.

The goal is ambitious. The result is not guaranteed. The attempt is real.

NO GUARANTEES

What if one million pixels are never sold?

The wall does not need to sell out overnight to have value.

Every approved buyer still receives the online placement confirmed in writing before publication, subject to the published terms.

The project can continue to grow gradually, one genuine block at a time.

Your block remains real

A published placement is not presented as conditional on full sell-out.

Progress remains honest

The counters reflect actual confirmed sales.

The goal remains a goal

The project does not promise a specific final result.

Publication duration and maintenance are governed by the placement terms presented before payment.

JOIN THE EXPERIMENT

Show that the internet can still build something positive

By choosing a block, you become part of a public experiment inspired by the creative energy of the early internet.

Request a preferred position, share something worth discovering and follow the wall as it grows.

You are not only buying pixels. You are helping prove that an unusual internet idea can still work in a positive way.

The purchase remains an online advertising placement with approved content and a clickable link. It is not a donation or investment.

A NOTE FROM THE DUTCH GUY

Why I decided to try

I know this is not the normal way to work towards a home.

That is exactly why I wanted to try it.

I have always enjoyed creating things, solving problems and taking on a challenge. As a millennial, I remember the internet becoming a place where a strange idea could suddenly travel around the world.

Pixels for Bricks brings those things together.

I did not want to create a page that simply asked people for money. I wanted to build something visible and useful — a place where every participant receives a genuine position, image and link.

The uncertainty is probably the hardest part. I do not know whether the wall will grow slowly, quickly or not as far as I hope.

But I do know that waiting would never answer that question.

I do not know how far this will go, but I know I had to try.

Pixel by pixel. Brick by brick.

ABOUT THE PERSON AND PROJECT

A few honest answers

Is The Dutch Guy a real person?

Yes. Pixels for Bricks is being created by a real person in the Netherlands. A deliberately stylised pixel portrait is used so the project can feel personal without making the creator’s complete identity the focus.

Why is his full identity private?

The experiment, the wall and its participants should remain central. Visitors can learn about his personality, interests and motivation, while his full identity remains outside the spotlight.

What does he do outside Pixels for Bricks?

He works in education and enjoys drawing, photography, walking and taking on new creative challenges.

Why does he want to buy a home?

The goal is to create a warm, safe and personal place where friends and family feel welcome — a real home rather than simply a property.

Is this a donation?

No. Buyers purchase an online advertising placement consisting of an approved image, public information and clickable link on the Pixels for Bricks wall.

What happens if the wall never sells out?

The project can continue to grow gradually. Every approved buyer still receives the placement confirmed in writing, subject to the published terms.

Can I contact The Dutch Guy?

Yes. Questions about the project, purchases or placements can be submitted through the Contact page.
